Overview

The Journal of Psychology & Education (JPE) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal established in 2026.

The journal publishes rigorous scholarly research in psychology, education, and closely related interdisciplinary fields. It also welcomes philosophical, ethical, technological, cultural, and social research that has a clear and substantive connection with psychology, education, human cognition, behaviour, learning, development, mental health, well-being, or contemporary social life.

The journal provides a platform for original empirical research, theoretical studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, methodological research, case studies, policy and practice analyses, and philosophical or ethical scholarship.

Aims and Scope

The Journal of Psychology & Education aims to advance knowledge of human cognition, emotion, behaviour, learning, development, mental health, well-being, teaching, educational practice, and educational systems.

The journal welcomes theoretically informed, methodologically rigorous, and ethically conducted scholarship that contributes to psychology, education, or the relationship between these fields.

Psychology

The journal considers research in cognitive, developmental, educational, social, personality, clinical, counselling, health, cultural, organisational, and positive psychology.

Relevant topics include mental health, psychological assessment, addiction and behavioural health, motivation, emotion, self-regulation, identity, interpersonal relationships, psychological intervention, psychophysiology, moral psychology, well-being, and human behaviour in digital environments.

Education

The journal publishes research on teaching and learning, curriculum and instruction, teacher education, educational assessment, educational technology, student motivation and achievement, school and university environments, educational leadership, education policy and reform, inclusive education, educational equity, cross-cultural education, and mental health in educational settings.

Interdisciplinary Research

The journal also welcomes interdisciplinary studies involving philosophy, ethics, neuroscience, medicine, public health, artificial intelligence, sociology, communication, culture, management, or related fields, provided that the manuscript has a clear and meaningful connection with psychology, education, cognition, behaviour, learning, development, mental health, or well-being.

Philosophical and ethical submissions should address issues relevant to psychology, education, human agency, cognition, moral development, technology, professional practice, or contemporary social life.

Purely disciplinary work that does not demonstrate a substantive connection with the journal’s central fields may be considered outside the journal’s scope.

Article Types

The journal considers the following types of submissions:

Research articles and other substantive scholarly submissions are evaluated in accordance with the journal’s peer-review and publication ethics policies.

Commentaries, letters, editorials, and other non-research content may be evaluated editorially and may be sent for external review where appropriate.

Language Policy

The Journal of Psychology & Education publishes articles in English only.

Manuscripts must be submitted in English and should be written in clear and appropriate academic language. Authors whose first language is not English may arrange independent language editing before submission.

Any language-editing service is separate from the editorial and peer-review process. The use of a language-editing service does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

Peer Review Process

The journal uses a double-anonymous peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other.

Research articles and other substantive scholarly submissions that pass the initial editorial assessment are normally evaluated by at least two independent external reviewers with relevant subject expertise.

The initial editorial assessment considers whether the manuscript:

  • falls within the journal’s aims and scope;
  • meets basic scholarly and methodological standards;
  • complies with ethical and reporting requirements;
  • presents a sufficiently original and relevant contribution;
  • is suitable for external peer review.

Editorial decisions are based on scholarly quality, originality, methodological or argumentative rigour, ethical compliance, clarity, and relevance to the journal.

Possible decisions include:

  • accept;
  • minor revision;
  • major revision;
  • reject and resubmit;
  • reject.

Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers where further expert evaluation is required.

Editors and editorial board members do not participate in the evaluation of manuscripts where they have a personal, professional, institutional, financial, or other relevant conflict of interest. Such manuscripts are assigned to an independent editor.

Manuscripts submitted by editors or editorial board members are subject to the same assessment and peer-review standards as other submissions. The submitting editor or board member does not participate in reviewer selection or the editorial decision.

The publisher, publication charges, and optional author services do not influence reviewer selection, peer-review reports, acceptance decisions, or publication decisions.

Similarity Screening

Submitted manuscripts may be screened for text similarity using Crossref Similarity Check, powered by iThenticate.

Similarity reports are evaluated by the editorial team. A similarity percentage alone does not determine whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected. Editors examine the nature, extent, location, and attribution of overlapping text.

Manuscripts containing plagiarism, unattributed copying, inappropriate text reuse, duplicate publication, or other forms of publication misconduct may be rejected or handled in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics procedures.

Open Access Policy

The Journal of Psychology & Education is a fully open-access journal.

All published articles are freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication. Readers are not required to register, subscribe, or pay to access published content.

Articles are published under the:

Under this licence, users may copy, share, distribute, display, adapt, and reuse published material for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, provided that:

  • appropriate credit is given to the original author or authors and source;
  • a reference or link to the licence is provided;
  • any changes made to the original material are indicated.

The licence applies to the published Version of Record unless otherwise stated for specific third-party material.

Copyright and Author Rights

Authors retain copyright in their published work.

Upon acceptance, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive right of first publication and the rights necessary to publish, distribute, reproduce, archive, preserve, and index the Version of Record.

The journal does not require authors to transfer copyright.

Authors may deposit and share the following versions of their manuscripts:

  • the submitted manuscript;
  • the accepted manuscript;
  • the published Version of Record.

No embargo period is imposed by the journal. When sharing the Version of Record, authors should provide the article citation and DOI.

Publication Frequency

The journal is published monthly, with 12 issues per year.

Articles are published after completion of editorial assessment, peer review, formal acceptance, production, author proof approval, and final publication checks.

The publication schedule does not affect the independence of editorial decisions. Manuscripts are not accepted solely to meet issue schedules or publication targets.

Publication Charges

The journal charges an Article Processing Charge of HKD 2,000 for accepted manuscripts.

The Article Processing Charge is requested only after:

  • the manuscript has completed peer review;
  • all required revisions have been approved;
  • the manuscript has received a formal acceptance decision.

The journal does not charge:

  • submission fees;
  • initial assessment fees;
  • peer-review fees;
  • rejection fees;
  • reader-access fees.

The Article Processing Charge does not influence editorial assessment, reviewer selection, peer-review reports, or acceptance decisions.

Optional Language-Editing Service

Following formal acceptance, authors may voluntarily request an enhanced language-editing service at a charge of HKD 2,000.

This service is optional and separate from the Article Processing Charge. Authors are not required to use the service, and its use or non-use does not influence acceptance or publication.

The language-editing service is not part of peer review and does not guarantee acceptance, accelerated publication, or preferential editorial treatment.

The journal does not currently offer Article Processing Charge waivers or discounts.

Publication Ethics

The journal is committed to responsible scholarly publishing and expects authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher to follow recognised standards of publication ethics and research integrity.

The journal’s policies address matters including:

  • authorship and contributorship;
  • conflicts of interest;
  • research involving human participants or animals;
  • informed consent;
  • data integrity and image integrity;
  • plagiarism and inappropriate text reuse;
  • duplicate and redundant publication;
  • corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern;

  • research misconduct.

Authors are responsible for obtaining all necessary ethical approvals, permissions, and informed consent before submission.
