Publication Charges

The Journal of Psychology & Education is an open-access journal. All published articles are freely available to readers without subscription or access charges.

To support peer-review administration, editorial management, copyediting, typesetting, DOI registration, metadata preparation, online publication, and long-term journal operation, the journal charges an Article Processing Charge after a manuscript has been formally accepted.

1. Article Processing Charge

The Article Processing Charge is:

HKD 2,000 per accepted article

The Article Processing Charge applies equally to all accepted manuscripts, regardless of:

  • the author’s nationality or country of residence;

  • institutional affiliation;

  • academic position;

  • funding status;

  • manuscript length;

  • article type;

  • the number of authors.

The journal does not charge:

  • a submission fee;

  • an initial assessment fee;

  • a peer-review fee;

  • a rejection fee.

The Article Processing Charge is requested only after the manuscript has completed the journal’s editorial and peer-review process and has received a formal acceptance decision.

Payment of the Article Processing Charge does not influence whether a manuscript is sent for peer review, revised, accepted, or rejected.

Rejected manuscripts are not charged an Article Processing Charge.

2. Services Included in the Article Processing Charge

The Article Processing Charge includes the journal’s standard publication services, including:

  • editorial administration;

  • management of external peer review;

  • basic copyediting;

  • standard language and consistency checks;

  • reference-format checking;

  • typesetting and page layout;

  • preparation of author proofs;

  • DOI registration;

  • article metadata preparation;

  • online publication;

  • open-access hosting of the final Version of Record.

Basic copyediting and production corrections required for publication are included in the Article Processing Charge. Authors are not required to purchase an additional language-editing service in order for an accepted article to be published.

3. Optional Enhanced Language Editing Service

After a manuscript has been formally accepted, authors may voluntarily request an enhanced English-language editing service.

The fee for this optional service is:

HKD 2,000 per manuscript

This is a fixed fee and applies to manuscripts of all lengths.

The enhanced language-editing service may include:

  • detailed correction of grammar and syntax;

  • improvement of academic expression;

  • clarification of unclear sentences;

  • improvement of paragraph transitions;

  • consistency of terminology;

  • refinement of readability and language flow;

  • detailed language corrections beyond standard copyediting.

The service does not include:

  • fabrication, alteration, or reanalysis of research data;

  • changes to the study design or methodology;

  • rewriting results to support different conclusions;

  • preparation of false or unverifiable references;

  • changes to authorship;

  • substantive academic writing on behalf of the authors;

  • any guarantee of acceptance, publication, citation, or indexing.

The authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, interpretation, and integrity of the final manuscript.

4. Separation of Editorial Decisions and Language Editing

The decision to accept a manuscript is made before the optional enhanced language-editing service is offered.

The optional language-editing service is entirely separate from:

  • initial editorial assessment;

  • external peer review;

  • revision decisions;

  • final acceptance decisions;

  • publication ethics investigations.

Authors may:

  • use the journal’s optional service;

  • revise the language themselves;

  • use an institutional language editor;

  • use any independent third-party editing provider.

The use or non-use of the journal’s language-editing service will not affect the manuscript’s acceptance or publication.

Individuals providing language-editing services do not select reviewers, evaluate the academic quality of manuscripts, or participate in editorial decisions.

5. Waivers and Discounts

The journal applies the same Article Processing Charge to all accepted articles.

The journal does not currently provide:

  • full fee waivers;

  • partial fee waivers;

  • institutional discounts;

  • country-based discounts;

  • author-status discounts;

  • invited-article exemptions;

  • editorial board discounts.

This policy is intended to ensure that publication charges are applied consistently and transparently to all authors.

The absence of a waiver or discount does not affect the academic evaluation of a manuscript. Editorial decisions are made independently of authors’ financial circumstances.

6. Payment Procedure

Payment instructions are issued only after formal acceptance.

Authors should not make payment before receiving an official acceptance notification and invoice from the journal.

The invoice will clearly distinguish between:

  • the mandatory Article Processing Charge; and

  • the optional enhanced language-editing service, where selected by the author.

Authors who do not select the optional language-editing service are charged only the Article Processing Charge of HKD 2,000.

Authors who voluntarily select the enhanced language-editing service are charged:

Article Processing Charge: HKD 2,000
Optional Enhanced Language Editing Service: HKD 2,000
Total: HKD 4,000

Payment information is handled administratively and is not disclosed to external reviewers.

7. Author Responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that they understand the applicable charges before completing the publication agreement.

Payment of publication charges does not transfer responsibility for the article’s content to the journal, publisher, editors, or language-editing staff.

Authors remain responsible for:

  • the accuracy of the research;

  • the validity of the data and analyses;

  • the originality of the manuscript;

  • the accuracy of citations and references;

  • compliance with ethical requirements;

  • approval of the final author proof.

8. Publication-Charge Transparency

The journal will not:

  • request payment before an academic acceptance decision;

  • charge authors for rejected manuscripts;

  • guarantee acceptance in exchange for payment;

  • require authors to purchase language-editing services;

  • offer preferential editorial treatment based on payment;

  • link payment of optional services to peer-review outcomes.

All fees are published on the journal website and communicated to authors before payment is requested.
